Welcome to Pierce County Dental Society!Pierce County Dental Society is a component society for current members of the American Dental Association and Washington State Dental Association. . May President's Message - Dr. Karl SmithDear members, May marks the end of another administrative year for the PCDS and the end of my term as President. As I write my final newsletter message, I can’t quite believe how quickly the year has flown by since I took office in June last year. The 2021-2022 term was characterized by two momentous events in the history of PCDS. The first was the transition from a physical location of more than twenty years to a mostly online presence, in keeping with the new pandemic paradigm of remote collaboration and online meetings. By leveraging technological resources, the PCDS has been able to continue providing the same level of services and support to our members and the community. This seamless transition was, in no small part, due to our new Executive Director, Cindy Stephen. Which brings us to the second significant event: the retirement of long-time Executive Director, Cheryl Jenkins, and the appointment of Cindy Stephen as her replacement. Cheryl had very capably led the PCDS for more than twenty years and left behind a legacy of exemplary service. Cindy, who has also had a long association with the PCDS, has proven herself to be a more than worthy successor in her ability to support and lead the PCDS during the transition and beyond. We will also be ushering in some new members on the Board of Trustees: Drs. Julie Fuller, Thomas Gessel and Jed de la Paz. We are excited to have them on the Board and look forward to collaborating with them. It has been an honor and a privilege to serve as President of PCDS. I’m grateful to my predecessor, Dr. Sonia Pal, for her skillful and steadfast guidance of the Society during the height of the pandemic and handing over the reins of an organization that was so well-positioned to continue moving forward. I hope I have done equal justice to this office during my tenure and I’m pleased to now pass the torch to Dr. Guillermo Chacon, the incoming President for the 2022-2023 term. Now that we can have in-person meetings again, I am looking forward to seeing everyone at the General Membership Meeting at the Tacoma Country & Golf Club this September. Until then, here’s wishing you all a great summer! Save the Date for the PCDS and UW Dental Alumni Golf Day!
